Teaching Philosophy, Style, Approaches and Strategies - My teaching style is based on the purpose of my teaching philosophy which is to achieve excellence and satisfaction in the outcomes on a given want or need or on a proposed goal. Educational competency through planning and experiences.

Short and Long Terms Goals
My short-term goal is to clearly communicate to new incomers on how I am going to implement my understanding of each student's learning process into a positive instrument to better and resourcefully guide every learner in the best approach to achieving every step of the way, through the major smart goal. I always make an agreement with my students to meet them, in five years after the accomplishment of the course, for a conversation. Besides the pleasure of spending this informal quality time, it is really grateful to see them after such a time and spot their facial expressions changes once more, this chat not only has helped me to question and evaluate how effective and efficient learning, lessons, materials, and teaching were but also witness how much they have achieved when looking for the impossible. Consequently, this gathering can be my long-term goal.
TEACHING PURPOSE
My teaching style is based on the purpose of my teaching philosophy which is to achieve excellence and satisfaction in the outcomes on a given want or need or on a proposed goal. For example, if I have a group of students highly motivated for a tour they are planning, I take this great advantage to the maximum to voice their empowerment into their target, I mean to let them take the greatest of using the language while on their destination and keep the light up when they’re back to the classroom. I developed a personal technique that I named The Three-arrows and a Target. When I am planning, I should have a plain view of the target, the three arrows and the environment. When you launch the first dart, you can see how close it got to the central point on the dartboard and make the correct adjustments. I agree with the 80/20 rule. I am fond of leading students through perform as much as possible giving ears to the speakers and papers to the writers. I motivate students. I use emotion and novelty to help them built strongly, freshness to stimulate synapses, let them know to know how to be ready to be frustrated and to be compensated as it is in the real world. I challenge them to be smarter, intriguing them, inviting curiosity and clearly thinking, and engaging background knowledge, seeing clearly how we are doing to the course of the main goal. I use quality constructive language, instead of saying “don’t forget”, I would say “remember”. I practice warm language, teacher talk, and language learning strategies. I stimulate learners to express ideas and opinions in such a natural way that they can connect prior knowledge to the present discussion, clarifying and elaborating in understanding new words, synonyms, shades of meaning, definitions, descriptions, and any other concepts. I do it because I accept as true as using time wisely to prepare appropriately can effectively smooth the progress.

Nos Estados Unidos

My name is Andrea Reis Gomes/Andrea Evans. I have been teaching English as a Second Language since 1993. I started as an EFL student in Brazil, fell in love with the language, and became a teacher. I love what I do. I’m a team player, fun to be around and easy to get along with. I enjoy meeting new people, traveling and being exposed to different cultures.
At present, I teach EAP (English for Academic Purposes) at Barry University in Miami, USA. I teach international students whose aim is to attend an American university. We teach them conversational English in the morning and academic reading and writing in the afternoons. It is a very intensive course. Our students are required to learn how to write a five-paragraph essay and to successfully complete a research paper. I teach grammar structure, listening, speaking, reading, and writing from levels 101 - 109 until the Master's class which includes levels 110 - 112. It is extremely satisfactory to see when a student starts with us in level 101 and can barely say a few words in English, and a year later, they are prepared to take the TOEFL exam and attend an American university.
I have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, but my real passion has always been ESL. From 2006 to 2012, I taught ESL at Nizwa University in Oman, in the Middle East. There, I had the opportunity to experience the Arab culture, and I was involved in many projects including placement testing, writing materials, tutoring, and extra-curricular activities. I have taught ESL from beginners until TOEFL preparation courses and I believe that each age group and each English level has its own challenges and rewards.
Now, after I get my Post-graduate degree in English and Teaching Methodology, I know that a window of opportunities will unfold before me, and I will be able to explore different paths in my career. So, I can keep doing what I was born to do: TEACH. I usually say that teaching is not what I do, but it is who I am.
